Calling all hunters - the annual fox hunt is fast approaching. All riders are welcome to take part in the Nov. 5 event geared toward all levels of Western and English riders.

"The course will be outlined and there will be some jumps to put in a bit of a challenge for riders who are navigating the course. But there will also be a way around all of the jumps so anyone can take part and feel comfortable," said event organizer Kenan MacKenzie.

The Sunshine Coast Equestrian Club has put on the annual hunt for nearly 10 years, said MacKenzie, who hopes to see at least 40 riders attend.

The traditional hunt would see hounds released after a fox and riders take chase Ñ but don't worry, animal lovers ÑÊthis local hunt doesn't use a live fox.

MacKenzie said he will lay a scent trail for the hounds to follow, which will keep the chase to a set course, making it easy for spectators to find a good viewing spot.

MacKenzie invites spectators and riders to his property at 1498 Lockyer Road at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 5 where a map with the best viewing sites can be obtained.

The event will start at 11 a.m. with the traditional blessing of the hounds before riders are sent out on the course.

For those who want to take part in the festivities, but don't want to ride, perhaps joining in on the best hunt breakfast competition is more to your liking. Try your hand at creating the tastiest breakfast for riders to sample and vote on once they return.
