Firefighters from Gibsons and Roberts Creek knocked down an RV fire on Oct. 29.

It took 20 firefighters from Gibsons and Roberts Creek to put out the fire that covered an old recreation vehicle (RV) with an addition at the Sunshine Coast RV Park midday Saturday.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, Gibsons & District Volunteer Fire Department fire chief Rob Michael told Coast Reporter. The damage to the RV, however, is extensive.

“It's uninhabitable now, it'll be a teardown,” Michael said. “This is a heavily forested area. So we're very fortunate that the weather has changed last week, because we did have some [fire] extension into the trees. But crews were able to knock that back pretty quick.”

The firefighters first got the call at 12:04 p.m. on Oct. 29, after people reported heavy smoke coming out of a chimney on Keith Road in Gibsons. Members from the Gibsons fire department were joined by Roberts Creek Volunteer Fire Department volunteers.

It will take quite some time to determine the cause of the fire, Michael said, as one of the fire inspectors was on scene.
