Nominations for this years' awards of excellence for Sunshine Coast women came to a close Nov. 30.

As a kick-off to the judging process, a meet and greet breakfast was held on Dec. 6 for the nine volunteer judges where sub-committees were set, the judging matrix explained and preliminary questions answered. All nominations will be reviewed with nine finalists, three in each category.

The finalists include: in the entrepreneurship category, Joann Hetherington, Marilyn Magas and Sandy McBride; in the health and wellness, sport and recreation category, Ginny Blattler, Linda Curtis and Loraine Proctor; and in the non-profit/community building category, Karen Archer, Diane Giles and Elise Rudland.

The venue for the awards banquet and presentation ceremony on Jan. 30 has been changed to the Seaside Centre in Sechelt. The evening will begin with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. for finalists, judges and sponsors. All guests are invited to join in at 6:30 p.m. for an all-guest reception prior to dinner that will be served promptly at 7. The evening's program will be an opportunity to honour and celebrate each of the nine finalists as well as to announce the recipient in each category.

Tickets go on sale Jan. 3 for $25 each (cash or cheque only) and will be available at the Sechelt and Gibsons Chambers of Commerce, CSJ Active Wellness Centre, Gibsons Cinema and the Volunteer Centre in Sechelt.

The awards of excellence presentation ceremony will be an evening spent to recognize, honour and celebrate some of the exceptional women of our community.
