Fallen tree, powerline at Byng Road sees Highway 101 traffic rerouted

Traffic diverted to Lower Road due to fallen transmission lines.

Update 3 p.m.

Just after 3 p.m., Mckay confirmed that the highway had reopened.

As of 12:45 p.m., Mckay said that crews were able to open one lane of the highway, and that traffic was alternating.

It was a bit of a delay for some morning commuters on the Coast on Jan. 31.

Early in the morning, a tree fell down and knocked out the transmission lines at Highway 101 and Byng Road.

As of 11:20 a.m, Andrew Mckay of Capilano Highway Services confirmed that traffic was still being diverted to Lower Road, and that it was initially blocked off at approximately 7 a.m. that morning.

Mckay confirmed that BC Hydro is on scene, but was yet to provide an estimate when the road will reopen.
