FABS spends a bundle in Sechelt election

The campaign organization For A Better Sechelt (FABS) had a budget of $46,201.98 to get their message across during the 2011 municipal election more than all the mayoralty candidates combined spent in Sechelt.

FABS was focused on seeing change at the Sechelt council table a vision realized when the votes came in. Only one incumbent FABS publicly supported, Alice Lutes, made it back onto council.

The total campaign contributions to FABS were $46,201.98. That total includes $24,901.56 of business contributions and $21,300.42 in individual contributions.

Businesses that gave the most to the FABS effort were Devonshire Properties, RJS Electrical and 0712380 BC Ltd. (registered to D. Sangara). Each company wrote a $2,000 cheque to FABS.

Several businesses gave $1,000 each to the group including Spani Developments, Direct Disposal, Olsen Electric, Skei Plumbing & Heating, Appa Foods, Frank Morgan Enterprises, Cartier Investments and Gibsons Building Supply.

The largest individual contributions to FABS came from P. Saunders and L. Boyes, who each donated $2,000. Mr. and Mrs. Bryneilson gave $1,500 while nine people wrote $1,000 cheques to FABS. Several other individual donations of $500 or less (including two $100 donations from T. Lamb and D. Hockley) and some anonymous donations filled out the individual campaign contribution total.

FABS used $19,267.74 for radio, newspaper and electronic advertising and spent $3,292.29 on signs, pamphlets and brochures. The group also reported they spent $3,360 on other forms of advertising.

FABS paid $11,494.60 to people for campaign work and spent $600 on rent, insurance and utilities. A total of $854.44 was spent on office supplies. FABS spent $4,139.18 on meetings, $1,000 on other campaign related functions and $484 on transportation costs.

The expenditures left FABS with a surplus of $1,709.82 in their account. They gave $800 of that amount to the Salvation Army Kettle Fund, $800 to Arrowhead and $109.82 to the District of Sechelt.
