Expect traffic and waste collection disruptions near Church Road project

As the Sunshine Coast Regional District continues work on the Church Road well field project, it issued a reminder to the Gibsons area residents that road traffic and bin collection in certain areas will be interrupted.

On June 30, a press release from the SCRD announced paving and watermain construction would start the following week on Reed Road. Paving will continue on both sides of North Road until July 20.

During construction, Reed Road will be closed and will reopen during the evenings after 7 p.m. between July 12 and 20.

“This closure is necessary as the road is not wide enough to allow traffic through while asphalt trucks and paving machines are doing their work,” the SCRD’s press release states.

The watermain construction is also starting this week, and Church Road and Elphinstone Avenue will be closed completely between July 11 and August 31. Alternate routes are advised.

Residents in the area have been informed that their green bin collections will also be interrupted by the construction on Elphinstone Avenue and Church Road. Between July 4 and August 15, those residents are asked to bring their bins to the end of Elphinstone Avenue at Fisher Road or the side of the road at Church Road at Central Avenue. Residents should be careful not to place their bins in the way of traffic, and are recommended to put their address on their bins.
