Effective immediately, an evacuation order has been issued for the Carlson Point area in Electoral Area B in the Sunshine Coast Regional District. This evacuation order affects eight residents from 21 waterfront properties.
The order ensures protection of human life while firefighters work to control the Old Sechelt Mine forest wildfire.
Road access has been compromised; therefore, evacuation notices are being delivered by Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station Unit 12 crew.
The evacuation order was made by the Sunshine Coast Regional District. Residents have been advised to leave immediately and go to the reception centre established at the Sunshine Coast Regional District, Field Road building.
The Wildfire Management Branch, RCMP, Emergency Management BC, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 12, Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue and the Sunshine Coast Regional District are continuing to work together to co-ordinate efforts to protect people and property.
The Wildfire Management Branch has command of the site. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The estimated size of the fire is 150 hectares and it is 40 per cent contained.
