Emergency crews were kept busy Tuesday afternoon after a dump truck tipped over in Gibsons.

Just after 2 p.m., Sunshine Coast RCMP, Gibsons firefighters and paramedics responded to the accident on Winn Road. According to police, the truck tipped over while the driver was attempting to dump a load of large boulders at a residential address in the area.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he was treated for chest, head and arm injuries, but was in otherwise good condition.

"The driver of the truck reportedly moved slightly ahead while dumping the boulders in an effort to completely empty the load, but was unaware that some of the boulders had become lodged in the front of the bed, causing it to become unstable when lifted," said Const. Peter Cucheran. "The combination of the slope of Winn Road and the lodged boulders proved to be contributing factors to the incident."

Cucheran said when the truck tipped over some diesel fuel and transmission fluid leaked onto the roadway but was quickly contained by the fire department.
