Sunshine Coast RCMP have confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved in the deadly July 10 incident at Sunnycrest Mall has died. RCMP Cpl. Philip Atoui told Coast Reporter the individual died on July 18, eight days after the crash.
Atoui said the RCMP are not able to release the driver’s identity. “We need to maintain the respect and dignity the family deserves while they also deal with this very difficult incident,” he said.
Coast Reporter has repeatedly asked for further information from the BC Coroners Service but as of press time, has not received a response.
The incident also claimed the life of Lesalie McGinnis, 67, of Gibsons, and left another pedestrian injured.
Authorities have not released any information relating to the cause of the crash.
