Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 4 to 11:

• On April 9, police attended a multi-vehicle incident on Lower Road near Maskell Road, Roberts Creek, after the driver of the first vehicle was distracted by a spider, lost control and went off road, colliding into a second empty parked vehicle which then struck an empty parked travel trailer. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the first and second vehicles were towed due to damage. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On April 10, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 6600 block of Sechelt Inlet Road, Sechelt, after the northbound vehicle went off road and into the ditch. The lone driver and occupant was unable to exit the vehicle on his own so Sechelt firefighters were called in to extricate him from the heavily damaged vehicle. The driver, who was found not to be impaired, was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The matter is still under investigation.

Theft

• On April 7, a suspect was caught on surveillance video stealing items from a business in the 12300 block of Highway 101, Madeira Park. Police are reviewing video footage and the file is still under investigation.

• Between April 4 and 7, a suspect gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5600 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt, and stole a Bluetooth transmitter. The suspect, who was captured on surveillance video, is described as a Caucasian male wearing all black clothing and Adidas sneakers. Police remind the public to remove any valuables from their vehicles and to lock them to deter opportunistic thieves.

• Between noon on April 7 and 10:30 a.m. on April 8, a suspect gained entry to two community mailboxes located on Belair Road and Leaning Tree Road, Halfmoon Bay, by breaking off the compartment locks. It is not known at this time whether or not any mail was stolen. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file number 2021-2240.

• On April 7, at around 7:50 p.m., a suspect stole a package from the baggage claim area of the BC Ferries Terminal in Langdale. The stolen package is described as a cardboard box inside a plastic bag and contained black roller skates, arm pads, knee pads and wrist guards, as well as a black hoody. Police are reviewing CCTV footage. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-2242.

• On April 11, staff at a business in the 1100 block of Highway 101, Gibsons, reported a theft after two male suspects were witnessed taking items and concealing them on their person before leaving the premises without paying for anything. One male suspect, described as a slim Caucasian, was wearing a black and grey plaid fedora-style hat, dark cargo pants and a dark grey shirt. The second suspect has been identified by police. Both suspects were seen leaving the area in a blue pickup truck. Police are reviewing security video footage and the file is still under investigation.

Impaired Driving

• On April 9, a witness reported a vehicle swerving all over the road westbound on Highway 101 from Tyson Road, Sechelt. Police located the suspect vehicle near Matukwum Lane, Sechelt, after it had gone off-road and collided into a telephone pole. The uninjured driver was able to exit the vehicle on his own but was exhibiting signs of impairment. The driver advised he hadn’t consumed alcohol, but that he had taken some prescription medication the previous evening. A roadside alcohol-screening test confirmed the driver did not have alcohol in his system, but a Standard Field Sobriety Test determined the driver was impaired, likely from his medication. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and the matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On April 11, police initiated a traffic stop with a possible impaired driver on Nestman Road, Sechelt. The N driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test. As the results showed there was alcohol in his system, the driver was issued a 12-hour driving suspension and a violation ticket for driving contrary to restrictions. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On April 4, some cash found in Gibsons was turned in. Owner may claim with pertinent details within 90 days. Please reference police file 2021-2184.

• On April 6, a very distinctive cellphone found on Mika Road, Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2021-2185.

• On April 7, a cellphone found on a Sunshine Coast Transit bus was turned in. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file 2021-2205.
