A Vancouver Island man wanted for breaching his conditions to not attend a home in Halfmoon Bay was apprehended with the help of an RCMP dog unit last Thursday night.
On July 20, just before midnight, Sunshine Coast RCMP received a complaint of a male in breach of court-imposed conditions not to attend an address on Trout Lake Road in Halfmoon Bay.
Sgt. Russ Howard said RCMP attended and discovered the male had locked himself in the master bedroom.
"Further information obtained suggested that there were firearms in the bedroom," said Howard. "The scene was contained and a lengthy investigation ensued."
Howard said with the assistance of a member of the Police Dog Service, entrance to the house was made and the 22-year-old male was located hiding in the bathtub of the master bedroom ensuite.
Howard said the suspect was taken into custody without incident and was lodged in cells at the Sunshine Coast detachment.
Howard added that firearms were found in the home, but they were safely secured and the suspect could not gain access to them.
The suspect appeared in court on Friday, July 31, charged with breach of recognizance and was released from custody to reside on Vancouver Island.
