The Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue station 12 (Halfmoon Bay) vessel Lewis-McPhee sustained significant damage in the incident of June 3, 2012, in which the lives of two volunteer crew members were tragically lost.
The zodiac hurricane 733 fast response vessel, stationed in Porpoise Bay to provide marine search and rescue coverage to Sechelt Inlet, has been out of service since the incident. RCMSAR station 12 continues to operate the Ken Moore, a larger hurricane 753, out of Secret Cove.
"Station 12 is committed to returning the Lewis-McPhee to active search and rescue service in Sechelt Inlet," said a press release from the unit this week. "In doing so, we also honour the dedication to service of lost crew members Angie Nemeth and Beatrice Sorensen and deceased members Don Lewis and Walter McPhee for whom the vessel is named.
The vessel is currently being prepared for a complete professional rebuild to the highest standards. Updates on the progress will be posted at http://www.rcmsar12.org.
