A major crack in the support structure of the Suncoaster Trail's South Kleindale Bridge has closed the creek crossing to the public for at least the winter.

A professional assessment of the bridge, which is at the north end of Pender Harbour's McKay Road, is estimated for completion in the spring, according to a news release from the Sunshine Coast Regional District.

“This closure is being implemented immediately for the safety of the public,” Jessica Huntington, interim Parks Services manager said in the release.

Approximately one kilometre of the Suncoaster Trail – between McKay Road and Lions Park – will be affected, said the release. "The next available access point is a logging road 300 metres up the Sunshine Coast Highway from McKay Road or from trails through Lions Parks located 800 metres up the highway from McKay Road."

The SCRD will provide updates on the closure through social media and its website.
