Roberts Creek's T. William (Bill) Humphries, FCA has been honoured with a fellowship by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia (ICABC). The fellowship (FCA) designation is awarded to chartered accountants for contributions to the community and service to the profession.
Since the ICABC's incorporation in 1905 446 fellows have been elected.
Humphries began his career as a sole-practitioner in 1974. Four years later, he merged his firm with Yada Tompkins to form Yada Tompkins Humphries Palmer & Co., which became one of the largest independent CA practices in the Lower Mainland.
After a merger with Ernst & Young (E&) in 1990, Humphries became director of corporate finance at E&'s Vancouver office, where he initiated the high-tech and First Nations practices. In 1996, he retired from public practice and partnered with a former client to purchase Lonsdale Rentals, a company that builds, buys, sells, and leases commercial properties.
Humphries has contributed to the CA profession as a member of the ICABC's marketing committee and small practice forum, and as a finance instructor at Capilano University.
In the community, he coached and managed West Vancouver girls' and boys' sports teams, served as director of finance for Ballet BC, and oversaw the finance and administration of "Music 91," a $25-million showcase of local B.C. talent.
A UBC alumnus, Humphries has provided mentorship and financial support to the UBC Thunderbirds basketball mentorship program. Since 2010, he has led the UBC Athletics' Habitat for Humanity Global Village Initiative, which provides two-week subsidized trips to El Salvador. This year, two teams of 12 will be making the trip, with Humphries leading them in the field.
