Coast villages to compete in ultimate pothole contest (April Fools)

Pot hole

The provincial government is looking to transform a Coast curse into an asset.

Between April 1 and May 1, the Ministry of Roads is holding a Sunshine Coast pothole contest.

“By far, we get the most complaints about potholes,” said ministry representative Dominic Toretto. “We’re still suffering from too many holes, too little asphalt, but we thought we’d add a little fun into the frustration.”

Nominations, which must include the location, name, and any social media presence of said pothole, can be sent to [email protected]

Points are awarded for depth, width, placement, discolouration, ugliness and rudeness of the nomination letter.

The SCRD board unanimously voted to support the initiative and discussed a parallel program to offer tours of the winning entries – to be called pothole patrol.

The winning pothole will receive a year’s worth of asphalt.

Of course, none of this is true. Happy April Fools’ Day!
