A Sunshine Coast Regional District bus driver is the latest winner of a Lotto 6/49 jackpot.
West Sechelt resident Glen Bell who has been driving bus for the last nine years as his retirement job said the woman at the Trail Bay Mall Lotto Centre was more excited than he was at first when he received the news he had won.
"I couldn't believe it. The lady was more excited, crying and shaking and excited. She had a phone on each ear calling people," Bell said.
Bell, 52, bought the ticket just before the mall closed on Sept. 13 around 5:15 p.m. His wife heard someone from Sechelt had won the $4.3 million jackpot and told her husband to go check the ticket numbers.
Bell matched six for six and claimed his money at the B.C. Lottery offices in Richmond on Tuesday. On route, Bell and his family learned the sad news that his father-in-law had died.
"It's been an emotional day so far, especially for my wife Treva," he said. "One minute we are all jumping up and down with excitement and the next minute we're all in tears."
Bell has three children and three grand children. He said his immediate plans are to make sure they are all debt free and taken care of. After that, he will assess whether or not to keep his job and decide on what fun to have with his winnings.
"I couldn't sleep last night. I was up at 5:30 a.m. just thinking about it," Bell said.
