Collector cars from far and wide flooded the Sunshine Coast for the 2019 Sleepy Hollow Rod Run and Show and Shine, also known as the Festival of the Rolling Arts.

A Coasters Car Club’s collector car cruise along its usual Sleepy Hollow Rod Run route between Sechelt and the Halfmoon Bay Fire Hall is set for the evening of Friday, Aug. 6. The first vehicles are scheduled to depart from Sechelt at about 6:15 p.m.

This event has been organized into two starting heats. Entries arriving from north of Sechelt’s Wharf Road will be assembling at Chatelech Secondary School between 6 and 6:15 p.m. Those vehicles will then travel along Shorncliffe Avenue to Highway 101 and proceed north.

They will be followed by entries coming to the cruise from further south. Those vehicles will be using the Tsain-Ko mall parking lot as a muster point and will be leaving that location about 6:30 p.m. They will travel along Highway 101 through downtown Sechelt.

The two groups will then travel to the southerly highway entrance to Redrooffs Road and cruise through the Halfmoon Bay neighbourhood to the fire hall. Vehicles are slated to take Highway 101 for their return trip to Sechelt.

Club president Ken Begg said this year’s Sleepy Hollow COVID Style Cruise is “basically the same as a Rod Run,” though he expects fewer entries than previous years’ full Rod Runs. The smaller event does not require road closure permits or additional resources from the RCMP.

Begg said the event was planned to show appreciation for the community’s efforts to stay strong through the COVID-19 pandemic. He said he is looking forward to seeing the usual groups of spectators, safely watching the cruise from the route’s roadside.

The club has hosted Rod Run-type events on the Coast over the past 26 years. No event was hosted in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Begg said the club is planning for a special 25th anniversary edition of the Sleepy Hollow Rod Run in August 2022.
