Sunshine Coast RCMP were kept busy on Saturday responding to two separate collisions on Highway 101.

Around 10:15 a.m., a 2003 Honda Accord was travelling on Joe Road in Roberts Creek when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at Highway 101 and was hit on the driver's side by a 2007 GMC Canyon, which was travelling southbound. According to police, both occupants of the Honda were sent to St. Mary's Hospital and treated for injuries. They were both later released. Charges have been laid against one of the drivers under the motor vehicle act.

Later in the day around 1:30 p.m., a second collision was reported at Highway 101 and Redrooffs Road in Halfmoon Bay.

According to Cpl. Kris Josephson, from the initial investigation it appears a motorcycle was southbound on Highway 101 when the driver impacted with a northbound vehicle making a left turn onto Redrooffs. When the driver of the motorcycle impacted with the vehicle, the driver was sent overtop the oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the motorcycle was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital due to the serious nature of his injuries, but those injuries were later confirmed to be non life threatening.

Josephson said the investigation is ongoing, but speed likely played a factor in the collision. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in both accidents.
