Celebrate Animal Health Week

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association has designated the week of Oct. 1 to 7 Animal Health Week in an effort to promote public awareness and encourage responsible pet care.

Veterinarians across the country will celebrate healthy pets by organizing special events and educational opportunities for their clients and the public.

This year's slogan, "veterinary professionals: local care, global responsibility," emphasizes the role that veterinary professionals play in the areas of animal and human health, animal welfare, food safety and biosecurity. While the public often recognizes the contributions that veterinarians make in their local communities, many people do not realize the work that is being done by vets around the world through research efforts and disease control to ensure public safety.

During Animal Health Week, the Sechelt Animal Hospital will be running a number of promotions including door prizes, information packages and a pet photo contest (grand prize valued at $150). Entry deadline is Oct. 5.

From Oct. 1 to 7, bring a donation of pet food to the SPCA or Happy Cat Haven and you will be entered to win a gift basket valued at more than $150. Help to feed all the homeless pets this fall.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, Sechelt Animal Hospital will wind up the week with an open house complete with demos, tours, treats and prizes throughout the day. Everyone is invited to come by and see what happens behind the scenes at the animal hospital. This will be a great opportunity for those interested in a career in the veterinary profession or simply for pet owners to learn more about keeping their animals healthy and happy.
