District of Sechelt voters have two choices for mayor and 10 options for six councillor positions.

Incumbent Mayor Cam Reid is hoping to reclaim his seat and follow through on several projects he has been part of during his last term. Coun. Darren Inkster plans to race against him for the spot in his first mayoral campaign.

Inkster has been a councillor for three terms, while Reid's history includes being a councillor and mayor for two terms each.

Of the incumbents, Coun. Warren Allan is hoping to clinch his third term, and Coun. Keith Thirkell is making a dash for his seat for a second term. Coun. Mike Shanks, who served on council from 1986 to 1996, is aiming to regain his seat and third most recent term, while Coun. Ed Steeves, who was originally elected during a by-election, works towards achieving a third full term with the District. Challenging them are Ann Kershaw, Alice Lutes, Stan Dixon and newcomers Fred Taylor, Alice Janisch and Duane Burnett. Kershaw previously sat on council for three terms, while Lutes ran in the last election in Gibsons without winning a seat. Dixon is not new to politics, having been chief of the Sechelt Nation and serving three previous terms as a District councillor.

Citizens will vote for School District No. 46 board trustees at the same time they mark their X's for mayor and councillors on Nov. 15.In rural area one, Mary Bitroff, who has held the position for one term, is facing off against Lori Fielding. Joe Harrison decided to drop out and put his support behind Fielding just after the nominations closed last Friday.

In rural area two, Greg Russell, in his second term, hopes to maintain his seat, while Marita Paul-Franke, Frances Heppell, Jason Scott and Danise Lofstrom battle it out alongside him for the two trustee seats available.

Three competitors are vying for two positions in Sechelt. Two-term trustee Dave Mewhort and board chair Silas White, currently in his first term, are running on the same platform this year against incumbent trustee Lori Dixon. And last, but not least, the lone trustee position for the Town of Gibsons was acclaimed and will be served by Ken Sinnott for a second term.
