The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is facing some difficult decisions during this season's budget process.
"The scariest thing is there's a lot of things the provincial government, for safety reasons and other reasons, they've mandated us to look after," said board chair Garry Nohr. "But we've got to come up with the money for it."
As of Coast Reporter's press deadline, the SCRD was still engaged in the round one budgetary process that began Jan. 16.
Round two of budget talks begins Feb. 13 and the final round March 5.
The first round has seen the board address various decision packages from SCRD staff that relate to 2012 spending.
Once completed, the directors will have a chance to reflect on where the budget stands, making the difficult decisions that might be necessary to balance the books.
"That's why we're going so slowly at it. The second round will be where it really gets tough. Because right now, if we're not sure, we're moving it on for more information," Nohr said.
"In the second round, we should have that information. In the second round you've got to make the decisions, because in the third round you finalize it."
