RCMP received a report of a suspicious occurrence where a resident of Sandy Hook reported seeing a bright light landing near Carlson Point in the early morning hours of Sept. 9.

"Once the light made contact with the ground, it continued to illuminate the area and appeared as if it could now be a fire," said Sgt. Russ Howard. "The light was visible for approximately five minutes. The initial concern regarding a plane or helicopter collision in the area was ruled out after contacting the joint rescue co-ordination centre in Victoria."

Howard said RCMP attended the area of Carlson Point and nothing suspicious was located. RCMP noted that several boats with bright lights were travelling in the area, and a meteor shower was observed at approximately the same time.

A local man is recovering in a Vancouver-area hospital after an accident on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 11. According to RCMP, the man was travelling on his motorcycle between Mossy Rock Road and Roberts Creek Road when he ran into a truck that was turning left out of a driveway. Neither the driver of the truck or the injured motorcyclist saw each other.

An air ambulance landed at Roberts Creek Elementary School where paramedics treated the injured man and air lifted him to hospital. RCMP issued the driver of the truck a violation ticket for failing to yield after a stop.
