The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association (SCCA) will be looking for a new executive director as of Oct. 14, after Dan Bouman announced his resignation from the position this week.
In a news release from the SCCA on Oct. 4, the SCCA stated Bouman is resigning in order to pursue other interests.
"Dan will continue to assist the SCCA in completing outstanding obligations," said SCCA chair Jason Herz.
"The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association would like to thank Dan for his many years of inspired leadership and service to the organization's mandate of protecting biodiversity in the greater Sunshine Coast region. We will continue in earnest the work that Dan and many others have begun."
In a phone interview on Oct. 5, Bouman said after holding the position of executive director for 10 years, he felt he was looking for a change.
"There is no rift in the parting of the ways and no ill will there at all," Bouman said. "It's time for change, maybe to look at other things with a broader focus."
When asked if he was stepping down to seek a position in municipal politics in the upcoming Nov. 19 election, Bouman said he didn't wish to comment at this time, but hinted that an announcement may be forthcoming next week.
"Over the last 14 years there has been such growth in environmental advocacy and the effectiveness of that advocacy," said Bouman of the work of the SCCA. "I think it's a good time to look back on all that has been done. I have been the face of the SCCA, so people associate the organization with me, but in reality, there has been such great work from so many people that has made this organization so effective. This is an organization that has grown from nothing to an organization that has a lot of power and influence."
