Sunshine Coast RCMP and the integrated homicide investigation team (IHIT) are investigating after a body was pulled from Trout Lake on Saturday afternoon (May 29).

Cpl. Don Newman said young people fishing at the lake first noticed the body, which is yet to be identified,

"There was a fishing derby at Trout Lake Saturday and some people involved with the derby noticed what appeared to be a body in the water," Newman said. "One of the parents went out in a boat and confirmed it to be such and called the police at that time."

He said RCMP are treating the case as suspicious because of the way the body was found and that no information about an identity, cause of death or state of the body will be released until after an autopsy is performed in Vancouver on Tuesday morning."Any time you find a deceased person in a situation like that, we're going to treat it as suspicious until it's deemed otherwise and we're hoping the autopsy tomorrow is going to enlighten us a lot," he said.

In the meantime, Newman said RCMP will be looking to see if the body has any connections with any missing persons cases in the area.

"It's too early to say but we're definitely looking into those possible connections," he said.

Anyone with information that may help investigators with this case are urged to contact Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266.
