Body ID'ed as missing Halfmoon Bay man

The B.C. Coroners Service and Sunshine Coast RCMP have ruled out foul-play in the case of a body pulled from Trout Lake on the weekend after an autopsy has been completed.

The B.C. Coroners Service and Sunshine Coast RCMP have ruled out foul-play in the case of a body pulled from Trout Lake on the weekend after an autopsy has been completed.

The body has been identified as Donald Jackson, 61, a Halfmoon Bay man who has been missing since October, 2009.

RCMP Sgt. Russ Howard said the cause of death was "consistent with drowning."

"We're satisfied it wasn't suspicious in nature. I know there are a lot of rumours floating around the Coast, but all of them are wrong," said Howard. "Out of respect for the family, I'm not going to get into details, but the evidence is consistent with someone taking their own life."

Howard said there are no other recent missing persons cases on the Sunshine Coast.

According to Cpl. Don Newman, the body was first spotted by teenagers fishing at the lake Saturday afternoon, May 29.

"There was a fishing derby at Trout Lake Saturday and some people involved with the derby noticed what appeared to be a body in the water," Newman said. "One of the parents went out in a boat and confirmed it to be such and called the police at that time."
