Body found off Gower Point now identified

UPDATE as of 9:30 a.m. July 13: The Sunshine Coast RCMP have identified the deceased male located in the water off Gower Point in Gibsons on Monday evening as 52-year-old David Matthew Seward of Gibsons.

The cause of death is still unknown as police are awaiting the results of an autopsy scheduled for Thursday morning.

On July 11 just after 8 p.m., the Gibsons Auxiliary Coast Guard unit were out conducting routine patrols and practice in the area when they were notified of a deceased male floating in the water approximately 400 metres off Gower Point.

"Sunshine Coast RCMP were notified and the Coast Guard hovercraft was called to assist with the retrieval of the body," said Cpl. Steve Chubey.

RCMP is requesting assistance from the public in tracking Mr. Seward's movements from July 11.
