Boat collision sends one to hospital

A 59-year-old Madeira Park man was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver following a boat accident in Pender Harbour June 28. Sunshine Coast RCMP said the accident happened around 3 p.m. on Tuesday and involved two boats.

A 59-year-old Madeira Park man was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver following a boat accident in Pender Harbour June 28.

Sunshine Coast RCMP said the accident happened around 3 p.m. on Tuesday and involved two boats.

"A RHIB was apparently conducting performance tests in the harbour when it collided with an 18-foot Boston Whaler," said Cpl. Steve Chubey. "Police attended as the driver of the RHIB, a 59-year-old Madeira Park resident, was unconscious. He was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital and is currently recovering from unknown injuries. The driver of the Boston Whaler was not on scene when police arrived and has not yet been identified."

West Coast Marine has been called to assist with this investigation, as it remains ongoing. RCMP requests anyone with information regarding this incident to call the detachment at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
