As more adverse weather is expected to hit the Sunshine Coast today, Dec. 10, BC Ferries has announced the cancellation of several sailings on Route 3.
Environment Canada issued a special weather warning for the Sunshine Coast, from Gibsons to Powell River, as strong winds and rains are predicted to reach 20 to 40 millimetres of rain and 60 kilometre per hour winds (with gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour).
"Due to adverse weather conditions anticipated this afternoon and evening, and in order to proactively position our vessels for tonight and tomorrow, schedule modifications have been made on the Horseshoe Bay - Langdale route," a service update from BC Ferries stated at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
The following four sailings have been cancelled:
5:30 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
6:40 p.m. departing Langdale
7:50 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
8:55 p.m. departing Langdale
Instead of its regular schedule, sailings on Route 3 for Dec. 10 will be as follows:
11:55 a.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
1:05 p.m. departing Langdale
2:10 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
3:15 p.m. departing Langdale
4:20 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
5:25 p.m. departing Langdale
6:30 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
7:30 p.m. departing Langdale
8:40 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay (customers travelling to through Sechelt (Earls Cove) to Powell River (Saltery Bay) will be accommodated by the Malaspina Sky).
9:35 p.m. departing Langdale
10:55 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
The southeast winds are expected to ease early Saturday morning, when they will switch to gusty southwest winds.
