BC Electoral Boundaries Commission is beginning the final meetings of its preliminary consultation phase, and now BC residents can propose changes to electoral districts through a new online mapping application.
The application can be found at bcebc.ca/your-voice/submission/.
Between April 26 and May 12, the commission will visit 15 communities, including the qathet region. There will also be virtual public meetings for these communities on May 3 and May 13.
The local session will be held on May 11, beginning at 9 am, at Powell River Town Centre Hotel, Georgia Room. RSVPs are appreciated for this event. Those planning on presenting at the meeting can let organizers know by emailing [email protected].
“We are looking forward to hearing from residents of the north, interior and coastal regions at our upcoming public meetings,” stated Justice Nitya Iyer, chair of the BC Electoral Boundaries Commission, in a media release. “We are pleased to have received more than 600 submissions already. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to provide input.”
The release stated that the commission has launched a new online mapping application allowing users to propose changes to electoral districts by moving electoral district boundaries. The size of the electoral district (in square kilometres) and its population update in real time.
“We hope that British Columbians try our new mapping tool and find it a useful way to provide input to the commission,” stated Iyer. “Hearing from people about local boundary issues is invaluable to our work.”
Go to bcebc.ca to try the new mapping application, view the schedule of public meetings, or make a submission.
Deadline to provide input for the preliminary report is May 31, according to the media release.
