Ballet legend presents Hart of Art

Hart's presentation is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt. A day earlier, on March 31 at 7:30 p.m., she will conduct a master class at the Coast Academy of Dance. To register for the class, participants are asked to call Shirley at 604-885-0892. Tickets for the April 1 presentation are $20 for adults and $10 for students, available at Coast Princess Books in Gibsons, MELOmania in Roberts Creek and WindSong Gallery in Sechelt.

One of Canada's most treasured artists and accomplished dancers, Hart has had a remarkable career, nourished by the need to create, the dedication to persevere and a profound belief in the importance of the artist in society. Join this award winning ballerina as she shares the challenges and triumphs of her artistic journey. Accompanied by a selection of her tutus and tiaras, this presentation includes behind the scenes photographs from her 30-year career and concludes with a question period, with reception to follow. Hart is an internationally renowned dancer. She began her ballet training at the age of 14 and after studying at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and joining the RWB company in 1976, become a soloist in 1978 and principal dancer in 1979. Over the course of her remarkable career with the RWB, she performed on stages in over 118 countries and on every continent. Famed for her musicality and lyricism, Hart has brought her trademark artistic and dramatic approach to the classical full-length roles in Giselle, Swan Lake, Onegin, Sleeping Beauty, Anna Kareninna, Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet.
