Back to school is not just for kids. Lifelong learners 55 and older are invited to attend a preview of courses they might enjoy at Capilano University, 5627 Inlet Ave., on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m.
There they will be able to meet the volunteer directors and some presenters of the Eldercollege courses offered this fall that range from philosophy to computers.
Experts on travel, current events, health care, the law, art, natural history and philosophy donate their time and talents, so fees are nominal.
This is also an opportunity to sign up for the classes, which often fill quickly once the brochure for continuing education is more widely distributed. Refreshments will be served.
Another opportunity to learn and to become engaged in meaningful discussions is through the Conversation Café, just one of 16 courses offered. This lively philosophical discussion series returns on Monday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt.
For four weeks, topics ranging from humour to love to truth to beauty provide the opportunity to explore your beliefs and to open yourself to the views of others. In order for everyone to become involved in the discussions, led by moderators, enrollment is limited to 20.
