The alleged assault case against Sunshine Coast RCMP Cpl. Murray McNeil has been adjourned to Oct. 2 for an arraignment hearing and to hopefully set a date for trial.

The case was heard in Sechelt provincial court on Sept. 12 and was adjourned for the second time according to Crown counsel Marion West

According to a police news release, on June 28, 2011, McNeil conducted a traffic violation stop. An altercation occurred, which resulted in an arrest of an individual. RCMP launched an internal investigation after that individual complained to the Commission for Public Complaints. No charges were laid against the complainant.

McNeil has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm. A parallel internal code of conduct investigation was also conducted and substantiated.

McNeil is currently operational and working under close supervision, according to the RCMP release.

ATV accident case adjourned

The case against Nicholas Sean Forster, 19, of Sechelt, charged July 14 with dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop at an accident causing death in relation to the July 13 accident that killed 21-year-old Shelby Rowland, was also adjourned last Wednesday.

The case has been put over to Nov. 7 as both Crown and defence wait for an accident reconstruction report to be completed.

Forster was released from custody after his first court appearance on July 16 on terms of recognizance. Conditions limited him to driving only to and from work during business hours.

The collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. July 13 in the area of the Mason Road mine site in West Sechelt.

RCMP said the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when they collided at a curve along the forest service road. The SUV struck the rear of the all-terrain vehicle.
