Sunshine Coast RCMP were kept busier than usual in the downtown core of Gibsons last Saturday night at this year's Sea Cavalcade.
RCMP arrested 36 people in the downtown core, all liquor related and ranging in age from 14 to 56, more than doubling last year's previous high of 16 arrests. Public intoxication proved once again to be the primary concern with police, along with open liquor. Most arrests occurred during the event; however, they carried on throughout the night. Fights were minimized due to a heavy police presence and zero tolerance of liquor infractions.
"Although we respect the rights of people to celebrate, alcohol and public intoxication only stand to tarnish this event's reputation to remain a family event," said Cpl. Steven Chubey, spokesperson for the Sunshine Coast RCMP. "I hope we were able to do enough so people could enjoy an evening of celebration with their families."
