The Stanley Cup final, which starts in Edmonton on Wednesday, June 4, has a local connection.
When the National Hockey League (NHL) announced its officiating crew of four referees and four linespersons for the best-of-seven championship series between Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers, Trent Knorr was among the selections.
Knorr began his officiating career in the Powell River Minor Hockey system. He has officiated nearly 700 regular season NHL games as a linesperson since the 2013/2014 season and another 28 during playoffs, but 2025 will be his first time officiating in the Stanley Cup final.
Knorr was also part of the officiating crew at the 2019 Heritage Classic outdoor game between Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets in Regina, Saskatchewan.
