Kristian Braathen is a 25-year veteran of the professional music world. The trio he founded in 2008 is planning a concert at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons on Oct. 21, with Miles Black on piano and Steve Holy playing acoustic bass.  

A decades-long musical friendship will reverberate at the Raven’s Cry Theatre on Oct. 15 as Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright marks 20 years as artistic director of the Coast Recital Society, also, GPAG receives grant and concert for climate justice coming up.

From 1985 to 2000, Laurali Rose Wright published nine novels set in Sechelt that feature RCMP staff sergeant Karl Alberg. Alberg’s romantic interest, Cassandra Mitchell, is a bibliophile and librarian. Wright’s subsequent books revolved around a new protagonist but were also set on the Sunshine Coast.

The world premiere of a documentary movie about the evolution of self-identity and intergenerational healing will lead a one-day film festival that opens the Sechelt Arts Festival on Oct. 13.

The Coast Recital Society plans to present the remarkable Cheng² Duo in concert on Oct. 15 at 2:30 p.m.

Performances, exhibitions and screenings will take place over 18 days at three venues in the District of Sechelt, including a revived musical tribute to Juno- and Grammy-winning artist Joni Mitchell that will take place at the Raven’s Cry Theatre.  

The countdown to the annual Art Crawl started on Sept. 24 with a gathering of Sunshine Coast artists at the Bricker Cider Company in Sechelt.
