The Sunshine Coast School ofCelticMusic is running its youth Trad Band from July 2 to 8 at Robert Creek Elementary School.
This is a group of 30 youth ages 15 to 25 directed by Iain Fraser, master of the Scottish fiddle, and James Ross, master of traditionalaccompaniment.
The instructors will be joined by some of the top young music students from the Coast including James Law, percussion lead, Graeme McGillivary, guitar lead, and Emily Wood, piano lead. TheseyoungCoast musicians are all studying further education inmusic. Joining them are students from Scotland and across the Lower Mainland.
On Thursday, July 7, at 7:30 p.m., the students are hosting a family dance at the school. Everyone is invited to this by-donation event.
This intensive week will conclude with an exciting concert of traditional music blended with jazz, fusion and rock in a big band setting on Fridaynight at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons at 8 p.m. This is a Showcase of the Performing Arts event and tickets can be purchased at Gaia's Fair Trade, Sechelt Visitors Centre and Laedeli (formerlyHallmark Cards).
On Saturday the group heads off to play at theHarrisonFestival of the Arts.
The regular full school of music with world-class fiddle and instrument instruction will return in July 2012.
