Young artists recognized

Young artists and their families gathered at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt last Saturday to be awarded certificates andvouchers forart supplies from Opus for their winning work.

"Art makes me happy," said home-schooled Dylan Stiles, who won in the ages five to eight category. Honourable mention went to Iris Cameron."The judges didn't hesitate," said organizer Sheila Page, referring to a triptych of photographs from Madeira Park student Cassidy Craig-Watters, 11, entitled I Believe I Can Fly. She and Zoey Schutz won in the category of ages nine to 12. Honourable mentions went to Bailey McKinney, Emma Judd and a technical drawing mention to Jeremy Swales.

Tylor Vanjoff took the award in the ages 13 to 15 category. Honourable mentions went to Payton Fraser and Daniella Donati. Phillipe Donati won first place in the ages 16 to 18 category for his figure drawing. Robyn Kelly earned second prize, and judges' choice award went to Courtney Lamb.

The exhibition of work, along with the winning Sechelt banners, will be on show in the Arts Centre's Doris Crowston Gallery until Nov. 16.
