The previous Women of the Coast musical event was a huge success, so the performers are doing it again. Come celebrate Women of the Coast in a winter concert of live music this Saturday at 8 p.m. The show stars Angie McCauley, Keely Halward, Liz Freund, Suzann Richter, Janet Panic, Shady Day, Molly Kennedy, Chelsea Crawford, Bev Nelson and Pamela Messner.

This parade of singer/songwriter talent will perform their best material along with a tune that evokes the winter season in the newly renovated Sechelt Legion. Entrance is by donation and/or donation to the Food Bank.

Christmas concert

The Sunshine Coast Community Orchestra Association presents their annual Christmas concert complete with sing along session in two performances: this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Sechelt Indian Band Hall and Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse Tickets are $15 adults or $5 for children available at Hallmark Cards or Coast Copy.

Join Grant Lawrence for a reading and book signing featuring his debut book, Adventures In Solitude: What Not to Wear to a Nude Potluck and Other Stories from Desolation Sound, at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, Sechelt tonight (Friday) at 7 p.m.

Choralations Children's and Youth Choirs along with A Cappella Strait will be presenting two performances of Sing Ye Nowell tonight at 8 p.m. at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons and Saturday at 8 p.m. at St. Hilda's Anglican Church in Sechelt.

Don Carlo

Verdi's Don Carlo plays in HD live via satellite on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt.

Director Nicholas Hytner makes his Met Opera debut with this new production of Verdi's profound and most ambitious opera. Roberto Alagna leads the cast and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, back after his triumphant debut leading Carmen, conducts. It's a long one: four and one half hours with two intermissions. Tickets are at the door.

Ellen Besso, author of Surviving Eldercare, and Dorothy Riddle, Principles of Abundance for the Cosmic Citizen, will be happy to meet the public and sign their books at the Woods store in Sunnycrest Mall this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Fishing with Gubby

Meet Kim La Fave, one of Canada's most sought after illustrators, as he signs copies of Fishing with Gubby at Bluewaters Books in downtown Madeira Park, on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

The local production has made the province's best selling children's book list for the past three weeks. Fishing with Gubby is the illustrated and authentic account of one season in the life of a salmon fisherman. Admission to the book signing is free. Festive sale

Come to a Festive Sale of Craft and Art at the Arts Building on South Fletcher in Gibsons this weekend, Dec. 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day featuring unique, quirky and tasty delights and accompanied by a festive atmosphere.

13 Grandmothers

Black Cat Cinema, a weekly documentary series screening films on spirituality, metaphysics, health, ecology, food, politics, art and music, will show For the Next 7 Generations on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Roberts Creek Hall.

Painter

For the month of December, 101 Office Supply in Sechelt is pleased to feature canvasses by artist Linda Dayan Frimer, known also for her social and environmental concerns. Her commissions include works for social and environmental agencies such as the Red Cross, Western Wilderness Committee and the Raincoast Conservation Society, and her murals and paintings can be found in hospitals, public spaces and corporate and private collections worldwide. For this show, she has supplied a number of original watercolours and acrylics as well as some prints.

Visions of Home

A submission call is out to all artists for work on the theme of Visions of Home to be shown in January at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery. This is a fundraiser and organizers ask for only one submission on the theme, per artist. Deadline for entry is Jan. 4 and the exhibition opens Jan. 8. They plan a gala auction of the work on Jan. 21. All proceeds of the auction will be shared by Habitat for Humanity and Gibsons Public Art Gallery.
