Archive website
An interesting piece of local history has appeared in the archives of the Radio Canada (CBC) website, The Museum of Canadian Music. It's a recording made in 1961 called Small Towns of Canada and it talks about the "relaxed village" of Sechelt, population 460. It describes the origin of the name Sechelt and interviews local personalities; one of the interviews is a blast from the past, a chat with a young Bergie and Minnie Solberg, the cougar ladies, who many will remember. It's a good listen at the url: http://www.mocm.ca/Music/Title.aspx?TitleId=318078
Requiem
A group of local singers have been enjoying a Sechelt Summer Choir project with Sara Douglas and David Millard every Wednesday evening at St. Hilda's Church where they have been rehearsing Faure's Requiem. Expect a performance in September. To find out more, contact Sara Douglas at e-mail: [email protected]
