Ways of Seeing Our Coast contains abstract and realist paintings inoil, acrylic and water colour on subjects ranging from the mundane (e.g. six different impressions of Langdale ferry terminal) to thesublime - the natural environment. Participating artists areDiedra Goodwin, Katherine Johnston, Margery Lambert, MarilynMarshall, Monica Dealtry Robb and Brian Romer. The opening reception is on Saturday, Aug. 1, from2 to 4 p.m. The show runs through Sept. 7.

Coast art

Local artists Donna Balma, Anna Banana and former Coast residents King Anderson and Lionel Thomas all have work on display in a permanent art collection.

The non-profit Coast Art Trust Society has donated a major art collection to the University of Victoria Maltwood Art Museum and Gallery. More than 100 art works by 45 established West Coast artists have been donated. The collection to date consists of paintings, sculpture, collage, mixed media and photography from three different decades of each artist's career, representing a historical overview of the works and careers of the 45 who live on the west coast of B.C. and who have been actively working and exhibiting.

Harmony fest

Sechelt artist Brian Romer is again participating in West Vancouver's Harmony Arts Festival.

He is part of the invitational showcase exhibition at the Ferry Building Gallery (foot of 14th Street, on the water), which opens Friday, July 31, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. The show runs until Sunday, Aug. 16.

Romer will also do a free en plein air painting demonstration from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9 at Ambleside pier, behind the Ferry Building. See details at www.harmonyarts ca.
