Sunshine Coast Elder College

Broadcast journalist Shelagh Rogers will give a free lecture in Sechelt on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Rockwood Centre’s Festival of the Written Arts Pavilion, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Rogers’ talk is the annual Clifford Smith Memorial Lecture presented by the Sunshine Coast ElderCollege in partnership with the Festival of the Written Arts and sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Credit Union. Rogers’ talk is titled, “I Hear Voices:  Reflections on Being an Honourary Witness for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.”

Rogers has worked with CBC Radio for decades and is an Officer of the Order of Canada. She is committed to working towards reconciliation between Canada’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Rogers holds five honourary doctorates and became chancellor of the University of Victoria in June 2015.

The Pavilion is partly open air, and there is a limited area to drop off attendees at the back of the Rockwood Centre.
