If you missed Valdy at this year's Garlic Festival or want to hear a complete concert of his music, now is your chance as the Sunshine Coast Jazz and Entertainment Society presents Valdy in concert on Saturday, Oct. 8 at St Bart's Church in Gibsons.
Through 40 years of recording and touring, Valdy remains at the heart of Canada's musical landscape. Many Canadians at home and abroad have grown up listening to his music and songs on the radio and on stage. This prolific singer, musician, performer and songwriter personifies the original stylings of the folk music idiom, reflecting -true to form -what is going on around us in our own world, in our community, our nation and abroad.
Valdy received the 1971 RPM Gold Leaf Award for 'Folk Singer of the Year' (prior to the Junos) and the first-ever Juno for 'Folk Entertainer of the Year' in 1972, in 2005 SOCAN awarded him with the National Achievement Award and now he can add the Order of Canada (one of our country's highest civilian honours) to his long list of distinguished achievements.
Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance available from Gaia's Fair Trade in Gibsons, MELOmania in Roberts Creek, at Strait Music in Sechelt or $20 at the door. For more information call 604-740-5825 or see www.coastjazz.com.
