Studio 201 is having an art show this weekend featuring new work from Nancy Hache, Ann Willsie and Jackie Buddle.
The opening reception is this Friday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. All are welcome at #201 - 287 Gower Point Rd. in Gibsons, in the old Gibsons Public Art Gallery space, downstairs by Gypsy Cove Trading.
The show continues over Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
Synchronicity
Synchronicity Festival opens this Friday night with a gala event.
Purchasing a ticket to the gala not only supports it in a big financial way, it gives you a first peek at the Rainforest Performance, a schmooze with the artists and volunteers and a membership to Deer Crossing the Art Farm that puts on the festival every year.

Here's just one of the many events at the festival this weekend: on Saturday evening from 7 to 10 p.m. you are invited to a free Carnivale evening of shadow puppets and funk. Outdoor movie
The big outdoor movie event that was to have taken place on Aug. 15 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Hackett Park in Sechelt. It's free and includes activities for the kids and a movie at dusk, The Croods.
One-O-One Art
For the months of August and September, One-O-One Office Supply in Sechelt is displaying works by Tyler Gentry. Native to the Coast, Gentry was introduced to canvas in a Grade 8 art class and didn't look back. Gentry's paintings range from the visionary and surreal to abstract and sculptural. Some of his most ambitious pieces hang as commissioned art in fine homes around the Coast.
Sunshine music
This year, the two-day Sunshine Music Festival at Palm Beach near Powell River over the Labour Day weekend features two of the Coast's finest performers: Mindil Beach Markets play on Saturday, Aug. 31, and Joe Stanton on Sunday, Sept. 1.
One of the headliners is multi-award-winning Australian indie artist Ash Grunwald, who has been credited with single-handedly revitalizing his country's roots and blues scene. Find out more at www.sunshinemusicfest.com.
On the horizon
Raven's Cry Theatre will once more be hosting Last Night of the Proms, a brazenly patriotic musical event broadcast from Britain by satellite. That's on Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at the theatre in Sechelt.
The Nutcracker ballet makes a triumphant return under the direction of Kathleen Holmes and Miguel Nguyen. Auditions will be on Sept. 8. Watch for more on both of these events later.
