The Art Stroll reception is on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. and it gives everyone a chance toview the Gibsons Public Art Gallery's new site (at the former BMO building), which will be ready for its grand opening this fall.

Coffeehouse
At the Pender Harbour Music Society's coffeehouse at the School of Music this Friday (Aug. 10) at 7:30 p.m. enjoy a variety of local artists. Hear Jena Crozier, jazz vocals, Ken Johnson on piano, Katharine Rowlands, soprano, and Brett Wildeman on vocals and guitar. Coffee and goodies will be served. Admission is at the door with a suggested donation of $10.
Music in the Landing
Music in the Landing continues this weekend with traditional Hawaiian hula dancing in the gazebo on Gibsons wharf tonight (Friday) from the group Keia Papa Kaua, 7 to 8 p.m.
On Saturday in Pioneer Square at11 a.m. hear Brett Wildeman, followed by Grant Olson at noon. Charlie Daigneault, a young Coast talent, will be busking in the shade next to Leo's from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday evening in Winegarden Park will feature the Deanna Cartea Trio including Ken McBride and Barry Taylor at 7 p.m. followed by Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis at 8.
On Sunday next to the Gibsons Sunday Market from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. hear a dynamic jazz duo of Karen Graves on sax, flute and vocals and Miles Black on piano.
The following weekend, Friday Aug. 17, there will be only one show in the gazebo: In Good Company with Brian and Billie Corbett, Andy and Bronwyn Amanovichand Trish Windsorperforming from 7 to 8 p.m., as the Howe Sound Outrigger races come to town on Saturday and Sunday.
Punk Rawk
Punk Rawk in the Creek comes at you live Saturday at Roberts Creek Legion. Get Hip recording artists and legendary punk rock, multi-national marauders from Stockton, Calif., the Authorities, with special guests, local bands Sinmobile and Skraeling. Bands start at 9:30 p.m. Admission is members $5 and non-members $10. Sorry, no minors.
Museum open house
Thanks to a grant from the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, the Coast News/Sunshine Coast News will be available on-line andaccessible to the public starting this Saturday. Celebrate the launch during an open house at the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives.
The digitized newspaperswill besearchable and browsable. The archived Coast News collection provides a valuable historical reference for understanding individual lives as well as broader community issues on the Sunshine Coast.

Fibreworks
Me and My Shadow by Edna Cers of Sweden, an exhibition of batik, opens on Aug. 11 with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at Fibreworks Gallery on the highway near Madeira Park. Meet the artist and enjoy her batik works on paper and textiles. The work has been exhibited in Sweden, Iceland and Chile; this is Cers' first exhibition in North America. Retiring in 2002 after nearly 30 years as a schoolteacher on the Sunshine Coast, Page committed to developing her abilities as a painter.
She has since studied extensively with established artists in a variety of media and has also shown her work on the Coast and the Lower Mainland.
For this show, she has provided a variety of subjects in large format and small, acrylics and some oils, all inspired by our local environment. 101 makes space available as a public service for local artists to display their work. There are openings available for the last three months of this year. Anyone with a passion for art and enough works to mount a show is welcome to bring by a portfolio.
