Award-winning folk music legend Penny Lang, Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts vocal award recipient Edmund Arceo and accomplished mezzo soprano Celia Howard perform their favourite songs in a fundraising concert for the Abbeyfield House building fund on Sunday.

The concert takes place at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Church in Madeira Park.

Lang emerged on the North American music scene in the '60s. Her powerful interpretations and originals in folk, blues, country and gospel have gained her a large and devoted following as "a superb singer of sardonic folk material. Her songs are emotionally powerful observations of the human condition, sometimes poignant, sometimes hilarious, mostly memorable." She now calls Madeira Park home.

Arceo moved from the Philippines to Canada in 1998 and has been a resident of Garden Bay for the past three years. He joined the Suncoast Singers when the group formed two years ago and has regularly performed as a soloist in the choir's concerts. He also participated in this year's Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts and received the award for outstanding vocal performance in the adult vocal category.Howard studied vocal performance at Western University in Ontario and branched out of classical music and opera to musical theatre productions. She enjoyed numerous roles over the years in musical theatre including Maria in Sound of Music, Nancy in Oliver and Mother Superior in Nunsense I and Nunsense II, to name a few. She also enjoyed the experience of directing children in theatre and musical productions and is currently one of the pastors at St. Andrews Anglican Church.
