They have a penchant for tunes old, quirky and twisted as well as great archaic songs that have almost been forgotten. The concert is at St. Bart's Church at 8 p.m. Doors at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $15 general/$12 students and seniors, available at the door only. Treats and savouries at intermission. CDs will be available.

Doors are at 8 p.m. and $10 tickets are available at MELOmania in Roberts Creek. The gallery is at 626 Shaw Rd., Gibsons, behind PetroCanada. Phone 604-740-2380 for more.

Art kudos

Pender Harbour artist Helen Broadfoot is a finalist in the 2009 Art Kudos international exhibition, a fifth annual online juried competition. The award selections were made by Scott Canty, senior curator for the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department and Director of Exhibitions at the Palos Verdes Art Centre. This year 132 artists representing 15 countries were accepted into the show and Broadfoot is thrilled to be among them with her oil painting, Greenfields, a fox glimpsed in the morning mists. Kallisto Trio

The Kallisto Trio, in its first Coast concert, brought the audience to its feet on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 15.

Fabiana Katz, Karen Mang and Edette Gagne combined their knowledge, talent and skills to give a concert described as "breathtaking." One audience member remarked, "I should have telephoned 10 of my friends about this concert."

Kallisto's beautiful a cappella performance had something for everyone, with music from all genres, including classical, jazz, African, pop, world music and gospel. Gagne, who also leads the Coast Symphony Orchestra, thanked the audience for its enthusiasm and promised another concert soon.
