Editor's note: In the coming weeks Coast Reporter in conjunction with the Festival of the Written Arts (FOWA), will present brief previews of some of the authors appearing at this year's festival.
Jen Sookfong Lee started it off in 2007, Mary Novik was here last year and now June Hutton will be the third and final member of the SPiN writing group to appear at the FOWA.
Hutton's first novel, Underground (Cormorant Books) concerns a physically and psychologically damaged Canadian soldier whose confusion and uncertainty, after surviving the horrors of the First World War, lead him to the seemingly irrational decision to fight again - this time in the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s.
