Theatre School celebrates five years

Alice in Wonderland

Driftwood Theatre School celebrates its fifth anniversary with an exuberant musical Panto version of the beloved children’s classic Alice in Wonderland.

Twenty-five young actors (ages six to 17) have been rehearsing since January in preparation for the May 9 and 10 performances at Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons.

Although Alice was originally the brainchild of the school’s junior drama performance troupe, staff were delighted when 10 actors from the fledgling Roberts Creek class voted to join the cast in many of the supporting roles. Instructor/director Ingrid Bilton calls this a truly youth-driven production.

“This really is a play by kids for kids,” Bilton said. “But don’t let their ages fool you. These are some of the most talented youngsters I’ve come across in my 39 years of teaching. I think audiences are going to be amazed by the maturity and power of their performances.”
