The exceptional pianist Angela Cheng returns to the Coast Recital Society stage for the concluding event of the CRS concert season, this Sunday afternoon, June 2, at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt. Tickets issued for the March 17 date (concert was postponed) will be honoured.
Cheng's recital begins at 2:30 p.m., with a pre-concert chat at 1:30. The program features music by J.S. Bach, Claude Debussy and Frédéric Chopin.
Consistently praised for her exceptional technique, tonal beauty and outstanding musicianship, pianist Cheng is one of Canada's national treasures. She has been a gold medalist of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition, as well as the first Canadian to win the prestigious Montreal International Piano Competition. She has also been awarded the medal of excellence for outstanding interpretations of Mozart from the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
In 2012, Cheng made her highly acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut with the Edmonton Symphony and also made her debut at the prestigious Salzburg Summer Festival in recital with violinist Pinchas Zukerman. Her recitals with Zukerman include concerts throughout Europe, South America and Asia. She is also a member of the Zukerman Chamber Players. Recent performances include concerts at the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Schleswig-Holstein and Ravinia festivals.
