The Green Film Series has announced their spring line-up of films, hosted by Gibsons Green Team and Sustainable Coast Magazine in collaboration with the Sunshine Coast Film Society at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse.

The series features environmental-themed films, discussions to engage the audience and door prizes. The films will alternate with the Sunshine Coast Film Society's regular fall schedule.

The Feb. 6 film is The Economics of Happiness. This film describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, government and big business continue to promote globalization and the consolidation of corporate power, while all around the world people are resisting those policies, demanding a re-regulation of trade and finance and forging a very different future.

On March 5, Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us? is the featured film - a profound, alternative look at the global bee crisis from Taggart Siegel. Taking us on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysterious world of the beehive, this ultimately uplifting film weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers around the world.

Revenge of the Electric Car will be shown on April 23. Director Chris Paine takes his film crew behind the closed doors of Nissan, GM and the Silicon Valley start-up Tesla Motors to chronicle the story of the global resurgence of electric cars.

The Green Film series is dedicated to using film as a tool for community engagement on environmental and sustainability issues, and to foster the role of film as a catalyst for dialogue, networking and action.

Tickets prices are $5 per person with a $3 membership fee to the Film Society required. Screening times are Mondays at 7:30 p.m., doors open at 7.
